In 2012, the first Deepsea Challenge prototype was created together with James Cameron, the famous director who in that year became the first man to reach the deepest point in the world solo, at a depth of 10.898 meters.
The Rolex Deepsea Challenge follows up on the challenge begun in 2012, with a massive model for official catalogs, no longer just as an experimental prototype, and with which Rolex inaugurated the use of a titanium case for the first time.
Thanks to the partnership with Comex, Rolex was able to develop an ultra-high-pressure chamber to actually check the water resistance of the Deepsea Challenge at the highest level. These tests subject the watch to real pressure present at as much as 13.750 meters, with a safety margin of 25%.
